6' 0" tall left-sided player who began his career with Gravesend & Northfleet and progressed from their reserves into the first team squad during the 1978/79 season. Andy made 15 senior appearances (one as sub) without scoring before the end of the campaign.

After making one more appearance for the Fleet early in the 1979/80 season Andy had a spell on loan at Folkestone & Shepway, making nine appearances and scoring twice. In December 1979 Andy joined Margate on loan at the same time that John Williams moved to Gravesend and he made his debut in a 2-1 win over Crawley on 15.12.79. Andy played at left-back and according to the Thanet Times he made "numerous timely interceptions" and gave a "thoroughly capable display". He went on to make 26 appearances during the remainder of the 1979/80 campaign, sometimes featuring as a centre-back or in midfield. Andy scored four goals, including a superb free-kick in a 4-1 win over Tonbridge on 22.3.80.

During the summer of 1980 Andy made his move from Gravesend permanent and the 1980/81 season was an excellent one for him. He made 51 appearances and was often outstanding, whether playing in midfield, at centre-back or at left-back. His all-action style led the local press to say that he gave "an impression of a berserk express train" and Andy was sent off for fighting during a 3-1 defeat at Hillingdon on 25.11.80. He scored five goals during the season, including a direct free-kick in a 1-1 draw with Hounslow on 26.8.80 and a superb header in a 3-2 win over Aylesbury on 22.11.80. Andy also found the net with what the Thanet Times described as "an unstoppable half-volley from the edge of the area" in a 3-2 win at Andover on 25.4.81. It turned out to be his last goal for the club as he was released at the end of the season.

Andy moved to Carshalton for the 1981/82 campaign. He'd been on the brink of joining the club in February 1981 as Margate desperately tried to trim their wage bill but a change of manager there scuppered the deal at that time. Andy stayed with Carshalton until midway through the 1983/84 campaign and he played in every position except goal for them.

Before the end of 1983/84 he joined Walton & Hersham and Andy then moved to Crawley towards the end of the 1984/85 season. He also spent 1985/86 with Crawley and often formed a central defensive partnership with former Margate player Steve Breach. Andy scored three times from a total of 113 appearances for the Sussex club.

His next move took him to Basingstoke and after spending the 1986/87 campaign there Andy had a short spell with Chelmsford, making 14 appearances there at the start of the 1987/88 season. He returned to Basingstoke before the end of the campaign but he moved on in the summer of 1988.

Andy spent the 1988/89 campaign at Tooting & Mitcham, making 33 appearances and scoring once for them.
