Keeper born in Stoke On Trent who moved to Kent in the late 1960's / early 1970's and played for amateur side St.Peters Old Boys for many years, first appearing for them during the 1973/74 campaign.

Barry was still playing locally when he joined Margate for the 1980/81 season. He played for the reserves during the early part of the campaign and then got an unexpected chance in the first team in April 1981. Barry was called into action as a stop-gap replacement for Paul Thomas during a drastic player shortage and made his debut in a 1-1 draw at Fareham on 8.4.81. He also played in the following match, a 4-2 defeat at Poole on 11.4.81. Barry then dropped back into local football at the end of the season but returned to Hartsdown to play a few games for Thanet United's reserves during the 1981/82 campaign.

He then became Thanet's trainer during the 1982/83 season, working alongside caretaker manager Peter Donnelly.

Barry played the last football of his career during the 1990's when he turned out for Thanet League club Margate Athletic Old Boys whose squad of veterans also included a host of other former Margate / Thanet players.

In 2012 he was living in France.
