Defender born in Wallsend who started his career with Gateshead before being signed by Brighton in May 1962. Bob made 13 first team appearances for the Seagulls during 1962/63 and then dropped into non-league football to join Ashford in August 1963.

He made over 50 appearances for the Nuts & Bolts during the 1963/64 season and in August 1964 Bob returned to the Football League when he signed for Hartlepools.

Bob's stay there was very brief and in October 1964 he joined Margate on trial.

Bob made his debut on 19.10.64 in a 3-1 win over Deal at Hartsdown Park and went on to make a total of four appearances before leaving the club in November 1964.

In January 1965 he returned to league football when Bournemouth signed him.

He went on to spend a couple of years at Dean Court and then transferred to Colchester in July 1967. After making 19 senior appearances for them Bob dropped back into non-league football and played once for Bedford during 1968/69 before having a short spell at Dover during the 1969/70 season.

He later played for Salisbury.
