5' 7" tall hard-working, fast centre-forward born in Edmonton, North London who packed a powerful shot with either foot.

Charlie started his career with West Ham and then joined Colchester before Arsenal paid £500 for him in 1945. He was released by the Gunners at the end of the 1946/47 season having never made a senior appearance and joined Margate in the summer of 1947.

Charlie made his debut in a 5-2 win over Gravesend & Northfleet in a Kent League game at Hartsdown Park on 23.8.47 and got one of the goals. He went on to be a fixture in the side throughout the campaign and on 11.10.47 Charlie scored a hat-trick in a 7-0 home win over Dartford in the Kent Senior Shield. He bagged two more hat-tricks - in a 10-0 win at Deal on 6.12.47 and a 6-0 win over Lloyds Paper Mills at Hartsdown Park on 27.12.47 - en route to a tally of 26 goals from 43 appearances as Margate won the Kent League title.

On 6.5.48 Charlie was part of the side that beat visitors Ramsgate 2-1 to win the Kent League Cup Final and in his last outing on 8.5.48 he scored twice as Margate won 4-1 at Gravesend & Northfleet to claim the Kent Senior Shield, completing a three trophy haul for the season.

Charlie left Margate in the summer of 1948 and moved to Ashford, becoming the first signing made by the Nuts & Bolts' new player-manager Charlie Walker who had just been sacked by Margate.

Charlie died in Enfield during May 1987 aged 65 having lived in North London throughout his life.
