Letters to David Pye

The David Pye Collection - 1966/67 Season

Above: David played in goal for Margate during the 1966/67 season and this is a letter from manager Almer Hall confirming David's wages as £6 per week during the summer and £14 per week during the season. Win bonuses and travel expenses were also paid by the club. To put those amounts in context David's first salary as a teacher around the same time was £39 per month.

Above: This is the letter Margate secretary Alan Kay sent to David Pye to go with his first wage cheque. Notice the letter is addressed to 'Dick' - David's real first name was Richard but he was always known as David which was one of his middle names.

Above: David's first Margate wage slip covering the three weeks after he initially joined the club.
