Irish forward who was the younger brother of Frank O'Farrell - an Irish international who played for clubs including West Ham and Preston and later briefly managed Manchester United.

As a youth Jimmy played for Cork-based club Evergreen and was a member of their side that won the Football Association of Ireland Youth Challenge Cup in 1949 having scored in the semi-final. Three members of that Evergreen side later played for Football League clubs in England - John Sutherland (Everton, Chesterfield and Crewe Alexandra), Len Davis (Arsenal and Walsall) and Patons Keating (Sheffield United, Bradford Park Avenue and Chesterfield.

During the 1949/50 campaign Jimmy had a spell in Arsenal's junior ranks but then returned home to Ireland as he was homesick. He joined Cork Athletic and made a big impression by scoring three times in six appearances for them in the League of Ireland Shield competition during 1950/51. The tournament was played before the league fixtures got underway and Jimmy emigrated to England shortly afterwards. Cork went on to have a very successful season - winning both the League of Ireland and the FAI Cup - and their side contained two full Irish internationals.

After arriving in England Jimmy started work at Ford's tractor assembly plant in Basildon, Essex and played for the factory side Ford Sports.

In March 1953 he signed for Margate and made his first team debut aged 19 in a 4-1 win over Bowaters Lloyd at Hartsdown Park on 25.4.53 but didn't impress and was quickly released without appearing again.

Jimmy then played for Ford Sports once more and later got involved with various sides in the Dagenham area.

In 2009 he was living in Langdon Hills, Essex.
