Skilful 6' 1" tall attacker born in Sidcup, Kent who played for Metrogas and Our Lady's Youth as a schoolboy before being signed by Millwall.

Joe progressed through the Lions' youth ranks up to the reserves by the start of the 2004/05 season and on 26.10.04 he made his first team debut aged 17 when he came on as a substitute 11 minutes from the end of a 3-0 home defeat against Liverpool in the League Cup watched by 17,655. Joe's first Championship outing was as a sub in a 1-0 defeat at Watford on 1.1.05 and he featured twice more from the bench before joining Conference club Crawley on loan in February 2005.

Joe made his debut for Crawley as a late substitute in a 2-1 home win over Morecambe on 21.2.05 and then started a 2-1 defeat against visitors Halifax on 5.3.05 before returning to The Den later in March 2005.

He spent the first half of the 2005/06 campaign in Millwall's reserves and Joe didn't feature in the first team until 14.1.06 when he came on after 62 minutes of a 2-0 defeat at Preston. It turned out to be his last senior appearance for the Lions.

In March 2006 Joe was loaned to Isthmian League Premier Division outfit Walton & Hersham and scored twice on his debut as they beat visitors Maldon 3-0 on 18.2.06. He made it back-to-back goals with a strike in a 3-1 win at Redbridge on 4.3.06 and on 18.3.06 Joe scored in a 4-2 win at Margate. He stayed with the Swans until the end of the 2005/06 season and finished with a record of four goals from 11 outings (two as sub).

In May 2006 Joe was released by Millwall and he joined Conference South club Fisher for the start of the 2006/07 campaign but found regular first team football hard to come by there.

In January 2007 he was loaned to Kent League club Beckenham and Joe played alongside future Margate player Ryan Martin there.

After a short spell back at Fisher Joe was loaned to Yeading, also of the Conference South, in March 2007. He'd scored three goals from nine appearances for the Fish by then.

Joe managed three goals from eight outings for Yeading before the end of the 2006/07 season.

He joined Beckenham on a permanent basis in the summer of 2007 and Joe spent the whole of 2007/08 there, scoring a hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Erith & Belvedere at Welling in February 2008.

Joe returned to the Conference South in the summer of 2008 when Welling signed him and he made ten league appearances (one as sub) for the Wings without scoring before being released in October 2008.

Having left Welling Joe had a brief spell back at Beckenham where he scored twice in a 4-1 win over Norton Sports in the Kent League on 15.11.08 before signing for Margate later in November 2008.

Joe made his debut in a 2-1 defeat against Staines in an Isthmian League Premier Division game at Hartsdown Park on 29.11.08 and the Thanet Times said he "didn't threaten to score but had a bit of Sheringham-type savvy about him in and around the area as he brought others into play". He was a fixture in the side after that and the Thanet Times' report on a 3-0 home win over Harlow on 20.12.08 described Joe as "a classy player" who'd "had a hand in all three goals".

On 21.2.09 he scored his first goal in his 12th outing for Margate with a superb strike in a 3-1 win over Boreham Wood at Hartsdown Park. Joe crashed home a volley via the underside of the crossbar and the Thanet Times said "in terms of timing and quality, it doesn't get much better". The paper also said Joe had "made a great impression at Margate with link-up and creativity" and added "he won't score often but when he does, it won't be a tap-in".

The Thanet Times said Joe was "involved whenever Margate looked like doing anything" in a 1-0 home defeat against Horsham on 14.3.09 and after a run of nine games without finding the net he got his second goal in a 2-0 win over visitors Sutton on 18.4.09. Joe finished the season having scored twice from 23 outings for Margate as the club finished in the relegation zone of the Premier Division and won the club's 'Players' Player of the Year' award.

He was a regular in Margate's friendlies ahead of the 2009/10 campaign and on the eve of the new season manager Terry Yorath told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "I don't understand why Joe and Lloyd Blackman aren't playing in the league. Joe's an outstanding player and, to be honest, he shouldn't be in our league."

Joe made his first appearance of 2009/10 on 1.8.09 as Margate drew 1-1 at Ramsgate in the 2nd Leg of a tie played for the Isle of Thanet Gazette Cup and on 22.8.09 he opened his goalscoring account for the new season in a 2-1 win over visitors Boreham Wood in the Isthmian League Premier Division. Joe thumped home a shot to level the scores and the Thanet Times praised him for "pulling the strings" in midfield.

On 15.9.09 he scored what the Isle of Thanet Gazette described as "a classic goal" with a cool chip in a 3-2 defeat at Sutton in the FA Cup and on 19.9.09 Joe made it back-to-back goals when he struck in a 3-1 defeat against Horsham at Hartsdown Park. He played on the left-hand side of midfield in that match and the Thanet Times said "his best position is a bit of a mystery, but he's no left-winger".

Joe got his fourth goal of the campaign with a stunning effort from just outside the penalty area in a 4-3 win at Waltham Abbey on 17.11.09 and he was virtually ever-present until injury ruled him out of two matches following a 2-2 home draw with Harrow on 5.12.09. He returned to the side in a 1-0 win over Maidstone at Ashford on 26.12.09 and played regularly again after that, sometimes in midfield and at other times in a more advanced role.

The Thanet Times said Joe was "at the heart of Blues' smashing passing football in the first half" of a 3-2 defeat against Hendon at Hartsdown Park on 6.2.10 and on 9.2.10 he took his goal tally to five by heading home a Wayne Wilson free-kick as Margate drew 1-1 with visitors Wealdstone. Joe then featured in the next three matches but a 2-1 home defeat against Canvey Island on 20.2.10 marked his final appearance for the club. He asked to be released due to work commitments and Joe left Margate having scored five times in 31 outings during 2009/10.

Immediately after his departure from Hartsdown Park Joe briefly rejoined Kent League club Beckenham before quickly moving on to Conference South outfit Welling as a non-contract player.

He stayed with the Wings for the 2010/11 campaign and during that season Joe played for free during a period of financial strife for Welling. He was still with the club during 2012/13 and helped the Wings to win the Conference South title by scoring 16 times in 41 outings.
