By 1964/65 John was playing for Sheppey and he was part of the side that won the Greater London League Championship that season. Former Margate winger Peter Peters was also a member of the team.

He worked as an insurance man during his time with Sheppey and may also have played for Ilford and won numerous caps for Essex whilst there.
