Locally-born defender who progressed through Margate's youth ranks. Malcolm captained the Under-16's during the 1995/96 season and during 1996/97 he was a member of the Under 18's side that won the Kent Youth League Cup.

Malcolm played for the Under-18's and reserves throughout the 1997/98 campaign and on 15.4.98 he made his first team debut when he came on as substitute during a 2-1 defeat against Yate at Hartsdown Park. On 23.4.98 Malcolm made his first start when he wore the number three shirt in a 3-0 defeat at Yate and after making one more substitute appearance he played at right-back in a 2-1 defeat at Cirencester on 2.5.98 to finish the season having made four appearances (two as sub).

In the summer of 1998 Malcolm was awarded a contract and he made his first appearance of the 1998/99 campaign on 9.8.98 when he came on as a substitute as Margate lost 2-0 on penalties at Forest Green after a 1-1 draw in the Southern League Championship Match. He made two further sub appearances over the course of the next three months and the Thanet Times said Malcolm "showed what he's capable of" after he came off the bench in a 3-1 defeat at Corby on 12.9.98. On 1.12.98 he wore the number five shirt as Margate lost 2-0 at Folkestone in a Southern League Cup tie and Malcolm played three more times as a substitute during the remainder of the season. His last appearance from the bench came in a 4-0 win at Brackley on 1.5.99 that sealed promotion to the Premier Division of the Southern League.

Malcolm stayed at Hartsdown Park for the 1999/00 campaign but only made two first team appearances, both as a substitute. The first of them was in a 3-2 home win over Tonbridge in a Kent Senior Cup tie played on 2.11.99. Malcolm also featured in a 1-0 win at Atherstone on 29.1.00 but then played out the remainder of the season in the reserves.

He was a regular in the reserves during the opening months of the 2000/01 campaign and towards the end of 2000 Malcolm was loaned to Dartford and spent around three months there.

He returned to Margate towards the end of the 2000/01 season and then spent the whole of 2001/02 in the reserves before leaving the club in the summer of 2002.

Malcolm joined Ramsgate for the 2002/03 campaign and in September 2002 he made a one-off appearance for Sittingbourne in an emergency loan deal. After eight first team outings for the Rams Malcolm left the club at the end of the season and dropped into local amateur football.

During 2006/07 he was playing for Thanet Sunday Football League club Dolphins.
