Date / Year of birth: Unknown

Season of first appearance: 1981/82

Season of last appearance: 1984/85

Also played for: Ramsgate and Deal Town

Tall defender who joined Ramsgate from local football in the summer of 1980 and then moved to Deal a few months later. In March 1981 the Rams tried to re-sign Martin but the transfer was not allowed by the Kent League. This was due to a rule that stated players could only move once per season.

As a result Martin dropped back into local football and played for Nonington Old Boys in the Kent Amateur League.

He was still playing for Nonington when he agreed to help Thanet United out by playing in a Southern League game at Wealdstone on 15.9.81. United lost 6-1 but in October 1981 Martin joined the club on a permanent basis. He went on to make 17 appearances at centre-back before the end of the 1981/82 season.

Martin stayed with United for the 1982/83 campaign and made 27 appearances during an injury-hit season. He turned in several outstanding performances and the Isle of Thanet Gazette said that Martin "reigned supreme in the heart of the defence" during a 0-0 draw at Woodford on 4.4.83.

Martin began the 1983/84 season free of injuries and he was a fixture in the side at centre-back until he failed to turn up for a Southern League match at Dover on 15.10.83. As a result he was released by United having made 13 appearances during the campaign and Martin then dropped out of senior football for a spell.

He worked as a PE teacher and immediately after leaving Thanet he rejoined Nonington Old Boys in the Kent Amateur League. They were a team of PE teachers and former Thanet player Brian Hassall was also part of their side.

In the summer of 1984 Martin rejoined Thanet and he played in United's first three matches of the 1984/85 season before losing his place. He then had a stint in the reserves, usually playing as a striker for them. On 9.10.84 Martin was recalled to the senior side and played at centre-back in a 0-0 draw at Canterbury in the Southern League Cup but it was his last appearance in United's first team. After another spell in the reserves he left the club and once again dropped into local amateur football with Nonington.
