Local keeper who joined Thanet United in September 1981 and made his debut for the reserves on 3.10.81. Matt also made two first team appearances during the 1981/82 season, deputising for Colin Page.

He made his debut in a home game against Crawley on 23.1.82 and kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw. The Thanet Times said that Matt gave "a competent display" and he was also described as being "promising". United manager Terry Morris said "young Matt did well. He kept us in the game several times with good saves." Matt also played in United's next match - a 3-0 defeat at Folkestone on 27.1.82.

He stayed with United for the 1982/83 season and played twice more for the first team. Matt's first appearance came in a 6-1 defeat at Fisher on 28.8.82 and the Thanet Times said that he was "out of touch". Three days later he played in a home game against Crawley that United lost 3-1 and then Matt returned to the reserves for the remainder of the campaign.
