Full-back born in Willenhall, Wolverhampton who was on Wolves' books as a schoolboy before joining Aston Villa in the summer of 2003.

Michael made 21 appearances (six as sub) without scoring for Villa's Under-17's and Under-19's during the 2003/04 season and then scored twice from 26 outings (three as sub) for the Under-18's during 2004/05. One of his goals was in a 3-1 defeat at Ipswich in the FA Youth Cup and in January 2005 Michael played in a youth tournament in Australia. He also made one reserve team appearance but at the end of the season Michael was released.

In the summer of 2005 he had a trial with Walsall and featured in friendlies for them but Michael then joined Southern League Eastern Division club Ilford for the 2005/06 campaign.

After a few weeks with Ilford he moved on to Conference outfit Tamworth and Michael made his debut for the Lambs in October 2005. Later in the 2005/06 season he featured in Tamworth's FA Cup run that included a victory over AFC Bournemouth and ended in a 3rd Round defeat in a replay at home to Stoke. The Lambs had drawn 0-0 at the Britannia Stadium and after drawing the replay 1-1 after extra time they lost 5-4 on penalties with Michael being the Tamworth player who failed from the spot when his weak effort was saved by Steve Simonsen.

Michael stayed with Tamworth until the end of the 2007/08 campaign but a serious ankle injury restricted his appearances during the latter part of his time with the Lambs.

In the summer of 2008 Michael moved on to Conference North club Solihull Moors before switching to Stratford of the Midland Football Alliance Division 1 towards the end of the 2008/09 season.

In May 2009 he signed for Southern League Premier Division club Leamington and during 2009/10 they loaned Michael back to Stratford for a spell.

Michael stayed with Leamington until September 2012 when he relocated to Gillingham in Kent due to his girlfriend getting a job in the area. By then he'd made 105 appearances (25 as sub) and scored five goals for Leamington. Their manager Paul Holleran said "He's been a great player for Leamington. People might say he didn't play that many games, but I could play him at right-back, right midfield, in the centre or on the left and he was one of the most gifted players I've ever had. I remember him as a youngster and if it hadn't been for a bad ankle injury I'm sure he would have gone on to play pro football. He's going to be a big loss to the squad and we all wish him the very best."

In October 2012 Michael joined Margate on trial and he made his debut at right-back in an Isthmian League Cup tie against Metropolitan Police at Hartsdown Park on 16.10.12. Unfortunately he collapsed in the penalty area with a knee injury a few minutes into the second half and had to be stretchered off. The Isle of Thanet Gazette said Michael had "been impressive" but it turned out to be his only outing for Margate. The visitors won the game 4-0.

Towards the end of 2012 Michael underwent an MRI scan and in January 2013 he told Margate's website "I damaged my medial ligament and my meniscus, but there was some good news too. They said it doesn't need operating on which is good; I've just got to keep strengthening it back up."
