Gravesend-born defender who was on Arsenal's books as youth and worked under Steve Bould and Liam Brady during his time with the Gunners.

In the summer of 2004 Phil joined Crystal Palace and he played in the Eagles' Under-18's side during the 2004/05 season. He featured regularly in the reserves during 2005/06 and in the summer of 2006 Phil was given a professional contract. He sometimes captained Palace's reserve side during the 2006/07 campaign.

In April 2007 Phil had a trial with Shrewsbury and featured in their reserves before briefly going back to Selhurst Park.

He was released by Palace at the end of the season and in August 2007 Phil signed for Ebbsfleet.

He played in two Conference games for the Fleet during the early weeks of the 2007/08 campaign but after that Phil fell out of favour and early in January 2008 he was loaned to Tonbridge.

In February 2008 a small fee and a 30% sell-on fee clause saw Phil make his move to Tonbridge permanent and by the end of the season he'd made eight Isthmian League Premier Division appearances without scoring for the Angels. Phil then played 35 league games (five as sub) without scoring during 2008/09 and his team-mates included future Margate striker Carl Rook who he'd later team up with at Hartsdown Park.

In the summer of 2009 Phil signed for Conference South outfit Braintree and he made 14 league appearances without scoring before leaving the club in January 2010.

At the start of February 2010 Phil rejoined Tonbridge and he scored once from 20 Premier Division outings before the end of the 2009/10 campaign. His goal came in a 3-1 win at Harrow on 20.3.10.

In June 2010 Phil went back to Braintree and he was virtually ever-present as they won the Conference South title during 2010/11.

He moved on to Dover in June 2011 and Phil made 37 appearances (three as sub) in all competitions without scoring for the Conference South club during the 2011/12 season.

In the summer of 2012 he signed for Margate on a one-year contract after featuring in all of the club's friendlies and at that time Phil was working as a football coach. Manager Chris Kinnear told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Phil did brilliantly in pre-season, he is quality and will make such a difference to our back line which is now looking very solid."

He made his debut at right-back in a 2-0 win over Hendon in an Isthmian League Premier Division game at Hartsdown Park on 18.8.12 and Phil also started Margate's next match - a 2-2 draw at Hastings on 21.8.12 - before only featuring once as a sub in the next two games. He returned to the starting line-up for a 2-0 win at Bognor Regis on 1.9.12 and from then on Phil was a fixture in the side for the rest of the season bar minor cup ties.

On 29.9.12 he scored a terrible own-goal in an FA Trophy tie against Maidstone at Hartsdown Park and Phil's howler saw him turn a low driven cross into his own net with no opponents anywhere near him. The Stones won 2-1 and the Thanet Times said it had been a "horror show" for Phil.

Having turned in consistent displays at right-back throughout the campaign Phil played a few matches at centre-back towards the end of the season and in all he made 48 appearances (two as sub) without scoring before leaving Margate.

In July 2013 he signed for Premier Division club AFC Hornchurch.
