Surrey-born forward who played for Sheppey and represented Kent before moving on to Finchley in December 1955.

Ray joined Margate from Finchley in February 1956 and initially played for the reserves but when he finally made his first team debut on 7.4.56 he made an immediate impact. He scored a hat-trick in a 6-2 win over Faversham at Hartsdown Park but didn't score again in two further appearances before the end of the 1955/56 season. Ray was released in the summer of 1956.

He joined Canterbury for the start of the 1956/57 campaign but moved on to Herne Bay during the season. Ray was still with them during the 1958/59 campaign.

In 1978 Ray was living in Horsham, Sussex.
