After a season with City he signed for Folkestone and went on to spend five years there.

In the summer of 1957 Roy moved to Margate and made his debut in a 5-0 win at Ashford on 24.8.57 - the opening day of the 1957/58 Kent League campaign. He went on to become a first team regular and impressed with his tricky play combined with hard work. He scored an impressive 13 goals in 39 appearances including one in a 3-2 FA Cup 1st Round defeat against Crystal Palace at Hartsdown Park on 16.11.57. Roy also laid on many goals for the likes of Freddie Kearns and Dennis Yeomans.

Roy found himself in the reserves for much of the 1958/59 season as he struggled to regain the form he'd showed during the previous campaign. He only made 17 first team appearances but on 15.11.58 he was in the side that lost 3-2 at Headington in the FA Cup 1st Round. Roy scored seven goals including one in a 3-3 draw at Tunbridge Wells on 22.4.59 which was his last senior outing for Margate. At the end of the season Roy was released by the club and he then linked up with Snowdown.

During the 1960/61 campaign he was playing amateur football in Thanet for Dane Valley Sports and Roy's son David went on to play for Margate later in the 1960's.

By 1970 Roy was living in Gillingham and he died in Canterbury aged 63 on 14.1.93.
