Thanet-born defender who started out in Ramsgate's youth ranks. Ryan played for the Rams' Under-18's side and then moved up to the reserves for the 2002/03 season before later dropping into local Sunday football.

In the summer of 2007 he joined Margate and Ryan was a regular in the reserves throughout the 2007/08 campaign. He stayed at Hartsdown Park for the 2007/08 season too and on 28.10.08 Ryan made his first team debut when he played at right-back in a 2-0 home defeat against Maidstone in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

After missing Margate's next game Ryan came on as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat at Horsham on 8.11.08 but it was his last senior outing and he returned to the reserves for the remainder of the campaign.

In the summer of 2009 Ryan signed for Kent County League outfit Canterbury and on 21.7.09 he played for them as they lost 5-0 to Margate in a friendly at Hartsdown Park. Before the end of 2009 he left Canterbury and started playing in the Thanet Sunday Football League.

Towards the end of the 2009/10 season Ryan rejoined Ramsgate and he made seven Isthmian League Division 1 South appearances (four as sub) during the closing months of the campaign.

He stayed with the Rams for 2010/11 and on 13.11.10 Ryan took over in goal after 20 minutes of a game at Met Police after keeper Brett Mills was sent off. Ramsgate were 1-0 down at the time and went on to lose 3-0 but the This Is Kent website said Ryan "had an outstanding game to keep the score down" and made "a couple of amazing saves". He finished the season having scored once from a total of 22 Division 1 South outings (nine as sub).

Ryan stayed with the Rams until the end of August 2011 when he left the club as a result of the Isthmian League's new rule that no longer allowed players registered with its teams to play in Sunday League matches. In the absence of first team football at Southwood Ryan had been keeping his fitness up by playing locally on Sundays and opted to play regularly for his Thanet Sunday Football League club rather than being a fringe player for Ramsgate.

In October 2011 he signed for Kent League club Deal and Ryan then started the 2012/13 campaign with Ramsgate U24 of the Kent County League, they'd previously been known as Broadstairs and had been renamed after a new link-up with Ramsgate.

In July 2013 Ryan signed for Kent County League Division Two East newcomers East Kent College.
