Intelligent 5' 6" tall utility player born in Lewes, Sussex who began his career with Fulham and made almost 400 first team appearances for them spanning the 1960/61-1972/73 seasons. Stan was granted a testimonial during the 1970/71 season when Fulham entertained Chelsea on 12.10.70.

In October 1972 Stan joined Brighton on loan and in December 1972 he was transferred to Colchester. He made 25 senior appearances for the Essex club before dropping into non-league football to join Wimbledon for the start of the 1973/74 campaign.

Stan scored once in 27 games for Wimbledon between August and December 1973 and then signed for Margate for a small fee in January 1974.

Stan made his debut in a 0-0 draw with Chelmsford at Hartsdown on 5.1.74 and won praise from the local press for his "expert close control and intelligent passing" in his midfield role. He was also described as "a wily campaigner" and went on to make 14 appearances (two as sub) before the end of the 1973/74 season, usually playing in midfield but also appearing as a winger and as a striker. At the end of the campaign Stan was released.

He later played for Haywards Heath and Southwick (including the 1977/78, 1978/79 and 1979/80 seasons) before moving into coaching. Stan was on the staff at Sussex County League outfit Ringmer during the 1989/90 campaign.

In October 2008 he was a guest for Fulham's Premier League game against Sunderland at Craven Cottage and was introduced to the crowd on the pitch at half-time.

Stan had two brothers who also played in the Football League - Alan who played for Brighton and Irvine who was a Bournemouth player.
