On 7.4.93 Steve made his first team debut in a 3-1 defeat at Saffron Walden in the Eastern Floodlight Cup and he made three more appearances at the start of the 1995/96 season without scoring. In October 1995 he was loaned to Margate.

Steve made what the Thanet Times called an "encouraging debut" in a 4-3 defeat at Weston-Super-Mare on 7.10.95 and scored one of Margate's goals. After missing the next two matches he returned for a game against Weymouth at Hartsdown Park on 21.10.95 and scored again in a 2-1 win. Steve then featured in nine of Margate's next 11 matches but didn't score again before breaking his hand during a 1-0 defeat at Baldock on 12.12.95. The injury ended his loan spell and he returned to Dover having scored twice in 11 appearances (one as sub) for Margate.

In the summer of 1996 Steve joined Folkestone Invicta and he was their top scorer for the 1996/97 campaign despite leaving the club for a spell at Ashford during the season.

During 1997/98 Steve scored 26 goals for Folkestone including two hat-tricks and during the 1998/99 campaign his tally of 23 goals included five in a game against Andover and both in a 2-0 home win over Margate on 1.12.98.

Steve left Invicta during the 1999/00 season and gave up football for a while before returning to the club in the summer of 2000. He scored ten goals during the 2000/01 campaign, including a hat-trick in a 4-4 draw at Halesowen on 18.11.00, before breaking his leg in a 2-0 defeat at Merthyr Tydfil in March 2001. The injury was severe and after recovering Steve didn't play for Folkestone again until April 2004, over three years later. He made three appearances without scoring before permanently retiring from senior football at the end of the 2003/04 season. By then Steve had scored 86 goals in 209 appearances (14 as sub) for Folkestone.
