Much-travelled forward born in Droylsden who started his career with Chesterfield before moving on to Doncaster before the outbreak of World War II.

In August 1945 Tommy joined Southend and made one first team appearance before being released the following month.

Tommy was signed by Bury in December 1946 and made ten first team appearances there during the 1947/48 season, scoring once.

His next move took him to Leeds in August 1948 but Tommy couldn't break into the first team and in March 1949 he joined Mansfield.

Tommy scored twice in six senior appearances for Mansfield before the end of 1948/49 and then dropped into non-league football to link up with his hometown club Droylsden in the summer of 1949.

In October 1949 Tommy joined Accrington Stanley where he scored twice in five first team appearances before moving on to Brighton in January 1950.

Tommy didn't make the Seagulls' first team and soon returned to non-league football.

He had a brief spell with Ramsgate before joining Snowdown Colliery Welfare in April 1950.

In December 1950 Tommy signed for Margate and wore the number ten shirt in a Kent League game at Betteshanger on 30.12.50. The match finished 1-1 and it was Tommy's only first team appearance for Margate.

In February 1951 he left Hartsdown Park to join Sittingbourne and after a few weeks with the Brickies Tommy returned to Snowdown where one of his team-mates was also called Tommy Peters.

In October 1951 Tommy rejoined Ramsgate and during the 1952/53 campaign he had a stint with Gravesend & Northfleet where he made two first team appearances.

After leaving the Fleet Tommy went back to Snowdown for a third spell before returning to Margate in September 1954.

He played in a handful of reserve team games before leaving the club once more.
