Player Profile:

Amateur keeper who joined Romford for the 1946/47 season and went on to spend five-and-a-half years with the club. Cyril also played for Essex during the 1950/51 campaign.

In November 1951 he joined Margate and made his debut in a 2-0 defeat at Snowdown in the Kent League on 17.11.51. Cyril went on to make three more first team appearances in April 1952 but was mainly a reserve team player with Des Cross and Ron Johnson sharing the first team goalkeeping duties.

Cyril stayed with the club for the start of the 1952/53 season but only played once for the first team, in a 3-0 defeat at Ashford on 3.9.52, before emigrating to Canada in March 1953.

Shortly after his arrival in Canada Cyril wrote to Margate, thanking the club for his leaving present - a Parker pen and pencil set. His letter was published in the Margate programme and Cyril said of the gift "I hardly think I deserve such consideration, but let me say, in all sincerity, that your token of goodwill and friendliness will be a cherished link and a constant reminder of my short but happy association with a grand club."
