Player Profile:

Full-back who started his career with local club Brighton & Hove Albion in 2006. He made his debut as a second-half substitute in a 1–0 defeat at Bristol City on 2.9.06. On 11.11.06, Sam scored his first goal for the Seagulls in the first round of the FA Cup as they beat Northwich Victoria 8-0.

He signed a new contract during May 2007 but was released a year later. He made a total of 37 appearances for the Seagulls. Sam agreed a contract with Conference club Crawley Town in May 2008 and was a regular fixture at left-back throughout his first two seasons with them.

He signed a contract extension with Crawley in June 2010. In March 2011, Sam joined Hayes & Yeading United on loan, scoring once in eight appearances. He was released by Crawley Town in May 2011 having made 94 appearances and scored six goals.

Sam joined Gateshead on an initial one-year contract and was released at the end of the 2011/12 season. He then joined Sutton United, playing regularly for them in Conference South in 2012/13.

Sam signed for Margate in January 2014 and made his debut in a 3-2 defeat at home to Hendon on 11.1.14. Manager Terry Brown told the Margate programme: "Sam is a full-back with good energy levels, able to get up and down all game. Sound defensively, a great crosser and very effective on set pieces." He played regularly until the end of the season, scoring four goals in 21 games.

He was an integral member of the squad that won promotion to National League South in 2014/15, making 34 appearances, including three as a sub, and scoring two goals.

Sam struggled for game time in 2015/16 and, in December 2015, went on loan to Tonbridge. He was released by Margate in March 2016 and joined Whitehawk. Sam's last appearance for Margate was as a sub at Hayes & Yeading on 6.2.16.

In June 2016, Rents signed for Isthmian League Worthing and was still playing for them in 2018/19 when he joined Eastbourne Borough.
