Player Profile:

Local keeper who joined Margate in March 1959 and played a couple of games for the reserves before the end of the 1958/59 season.

John then made his first team debut in the opening game of the 1960/61 campaign, standing in for John Prodger who was unavailable due to cricket commitments with Kent CCC. The match concerned was away to Ashford in the Southern League and it took place on 20.8.60. For John it turned out to be a day he'd want to forget as Margate went down 5-0 and he was blamed for four of the goals by the local press. The local paper also said that "the chances of his ten colleagues having complete confidence in him were nil". It turned out to be John's only first team appearance and he left the club altogether after the Ashford debacle.

However he returned to make a one-off appearance for the reserves during the 1961/62 season.

John then played for local amateur side Westgate in the Kent Amateur League for many years, he was still with them during the 1970/71 season.
