Player Profile:

6' 0" tall Hammersmith-born attacker who played for Ruislip Youth Club while at school and then Eastcote Boys Club before starting his senior career with Queens Park Rangers.

Gordon was signed by the R's in August 1952 and scored on his first-team debut as QPR beat Newport 4-2 in a Division 3 (South) game at Loftus Road on 18.10.52. He went on to make another 20 sporadic senior appearances over the next four years but didn't score again before moving to Plymouth in September 1956.

Gordon made his Plymouth debut in a 2-2 draw at Southampton on 29.9.56 and scored twice in a total of 14 appearances before dropping into non-league football to join Tunbridge Wells towards the end of 1957.

He moved on to Tonbridge for the 1958/59 campaign and, in January 1959, Gordon was transferred to Cambridge United for £600.

He returned to Kent early in 1960 when he joined Gravesend & Northfleet. Gordon made 12 appearances for the Fleet without scoring before the end of the 1959/60 season.

In the summer of 1960, Gordon moved to Dover and he went on to spend over three years at Crabble, scoring a total of 17 goals, before joining Margate in a straight swap for Brian Naysmith in November 1963.

Gordon made his debut wearing the number eight shirt as Margate beat Cambridge City 2-1 in a Southern League Premier Division game at Hartsdown Park on 23.11.63. The Thanet Times' Dave Cooper wrote: "Judgment on the rangy Quinn must be left for at least another couple of games. Signed only a few hours previous and knowing his colleagues by word rather than deed, he obviously needs time to settle. Although now and again I felt that he required more determination in the tackle, he always tried to use the ball effectively and may develop into an astute schemer."

Gordon kept his place for a Kent Floodlight Cup match against visitors Ramsgate on 25.11.63 but, although Margate won 2-0, Gordon had "a shocker" of a game according to the Isle of Thanet Gazette. He subsequently didn't feature in the first-team again and spent the next few weeks playing for the reserves. Gordon made six appearances for them before returning to Gravesend & Northfleet in January 1964. Once again, his move was part of an exchange deal and Tommy Williams was the other player involved.

Gordon went on to make 13 appearances for the Fleet before the end of the 1963/64 season and scored once before leaving the club in the summer of 1964.

For a spell during the 1970s he worked behind the scenes at Brentford.

In March 2015, Gordon was living in a care home in Kenton, Middlesex, where he enjoyed talking about his football career.

Gordon died in February 2018.
