Luke stayed with Canterbury for 2008/09 and again featured in the Under-16s, winning their 'Players' Player of the Year' award for the season. He also played for Kent's Under-16 team and appeared in some Kent County League matches for Canterbury's first-team aged only 16.
On 21.7.09, Luke was in the City side that lost 5-0 at Margate in a friendly and, in August 2009, he signed for Margate. At that time he was a pupil at Chaucer Technology School in Canterbury and Luke played rugby for them.
He played regularly for Margate's reserves during the 2009/10 campaign and, having been an unused substitute for a few first-team matches previously, Luke made a one-off appearance for the senior side in a 2-0 defeat at Welling in the Kent Senior Cup on 30.3.10. He was still only 17 at the time.
At the end of the season Luke was a substitute as Kent's Under-18s won the FA County Youth Cup Final by beating Sheffield and Hallamshire 1-0 at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium and it was the first time that Kent had ever won the competition. Margate's Sam Cliff captained the side.
Luke joined Kent League club Herne Bay ahead of the 2010/11 campaign and he was still with the club during 2012/13 - Herne Bay's first in the Isthmian League Division 1 South. Towards the end of the season, Luke broke into the first-team and he finished the campaign having made 12 league appearances. He was still with Herne Bay during 2013/14.
