Player Profile:
A combative midfielder or defender from East London. Tambeson came through the youth system at West Ham United before moving to Dagenham & Redbridge and having a spell, aged 17, at Scottish Premier League side, Gretna.
Short stints at Aveley and Harlow Town followed before, aged 20, signing for Isthmian Premier side AFC Hornchurch in March 2010. He made 179 appearances and scored seven goals over four years for the Urchins, winning promotion to Conference South in 2011-12 via the play-offs.
There was a brief spell at Canvey Island before Tambeson joined Margate in October 2014 – this was just a few weeks after he had played for Canvey at Hartsdown when he obviously caught the eye of our management team.
Assistant manager Stuart Cash said: "We watched Tam four or five times after his fantastic performance against us at Hartsdown Park. He will offer us something different to what we already have. He can play on the right of defence or in the centre as well as midfield."
Tambeson made his Margate debut in a 1-0 Kent Senior Cup win at Chatham on 14.10.14 and quickly slotted into the team, usually as right-back. He scored in a 3-0 win at VCD on 8.11.14 as well as against his old club Hornchurch in a 5-1 win at Hartsdown on 24.3.15.
Tambeson had a dramatic role in our 1-0 play-off final victory over Hendon on 17.5.15. The game turned on the 18th minute dismissal of home striker Aaron Morgan, who was shown a straight red for a challenge on Tambeson, a decision that Hendon felt aggrieved by.
In June 2015, he was released by Margate and headed back to Isthmian League Canvey Island but finished the 2015-16 campaign at Hornchurch. He started 2016-17 at National League South side Bishop's Stortford before again heading to Canvey.
In January 2017, he joined Billericay Town until his contract was cancelled by mutual consent at the end of the 2016-17 season. Tambeson joined Grays Athletic – then managed by former Margate team-mate Jamie Stuart - at the start of 2017-18 but was released without making a competitive appearance for the club. In March 2018, he signed for Heybridge Swifts and on his debut scored a 25-yard goal against Haringey Borough. Swifts reached the Isthmian North play-offs that season.
In 2018-19, he returned to National League South Billericay and, in March 2019, was reportedly involved in an incident during an away match against Slough. It was said he jumped a barrier to confront a teenage spectator at half-time.
Tambeson was one of 14 players to sign for Romford in November 2019 after the club was taken over by Glenn Tamplin. A spell at Isthmian League North Great Wakering followed in 2021-22 before returning to Romford in 2022-23 who were by now playing in the Essex Senior League.
