Player Profile:
Born in Worcester Park, South West London, Gary began his career at Crystal Palace and made his first-team debut aged 17 in December 2002. He forged a regular place for himself in the first-team and, aged 21, made his 100th appearance for Palace.
During his time at Selhurst Park, Gary made appearances for England's U16 to U21 teams.
Former Palace owner Simon Jordan, in his book 'Be Careful What You Wish For', said: "Gary Borrowdale, Ben Watson and Wayne Routledge were the first of a crop of players that over the next six years were to see Palace's academy revered as one of the best in the country."
He won the club's Young Player of the Year award in 2006/07. However, this would be his last season at Selhurst Park. With his contract expired, and after 98 appearances for the Eagles, he joined former Palace boss Iain Dowie at Coventry City for a tribunal fee of £650,000.
At Coventry, his career stalled, with the team struggling and Dowie sacked, resulting in Gary spending most of the season on the sidelines. In September 2008, he joined Colchester United on a month-long loan.
In November 2008, he became Queens Park Rangers manager Paulo Sousa's first loan signing since taking over at Loftus Road. He signed a permanent contract the following January.
Gary was loaned out by QPR on a number of occasions. He joined League One side Brighton & Hove Albion on loan for the remainder of the season in March 2009, making 12 appearances for the Seagulls.
In March 2010, he joined League One club Charlton Athletic on a 28-day loan. In February 2011, he agreed a one-month loan deal with another League One club Carlisle United. He joined League Two club Barnet on an emergency loan deal in September 2011.
His contract expired at Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2012.
In February 2013, Borrowdale signed for IFA Championship 1 club Carrick Rangers until the end of 2012/13.
That summer it was reported that Gary was training with Tonbridge Angels and he made seven league appearances for them in the early months of 2013/14.
In November, he signed for Margate and made his debut in a 2-0 defeat at Kingstonian on 9.11.13. He had scored three goals before the end of the month - the winner in a 1-0 home win on 19.11.13 against Carshalton, on 26.11.13 in 3-2 home win over Wingate, and on 30.11.13 in 1-1 draw at Hartsdown with Canvey.
His final appearance for Margate was as a sub on 11.1.14 in a 3-2 home defeat against Hendon.
Gary then returned to professional football at the end of January 2014 when he signed for Gillingham. But he was released by the Gills at the end of the season without having played a match for them.
In August 2014, Borrowdale signed for Greenwich Borough and, in May 2016, took a coaching role at the club.
