Player Profile:

6' 4" Matt had been born and grew up in Eastbourne, East Sussex, and studied an animal biology and zoology course at Cornwall College where he started to play for Newquay.

Matt was registered to play for Exeter City in the Football League in 2010-11 and had made a number of reserve appearances from 2009 onwards. His squad number was 38.

He later moved back to Sussex and signed for Horsham in 2011 and was part of the Hastings United team that in 2012-13 reached the Third Round of the FA Cup.

Media coverage at the time revealed Matt was the son of top tennis umpire Gerry Armstrong-Ford who had officiated at a number of Wimbledon finals. Matt himself had been a line judge at some professional tennis tournaments for matches involving stars such as Nadal and Federer. It was also revealed he had a stint working as a semi-naked waiter for a firm called Butlers in the Buff.

However, he ended up missing out playing against Championship side Middlesbrough because of injury.

Matt was Margate's back-up goalie during the second half of the 2014-15 season.

He played in several League Cup and one Kent Senior Cup game as well as a couple of Isthmian League fixtures.

On 4.4.15, he played the second half of a 2-0 league win at Peacehaven after first choice keeper Nikki Bull had hit his head on the base of a post.

After Margate won promotion at the end of the season, Matt was released.

He has since moved to South Africa where he works as a ranger and safari guide.
