Player Profile:
Winger Alex was born in Swindon and joined the youth set-up of Swindon Town at the age of eight. At the age of 15 years and 233 days, he was named among the subs for a Football League Trophy match against Exeter City on 6.10.09 but didn't come on.
On 15.10.09, Alex made his England under-16 debut in a 1-0 win against Wales and appeared twice more at that level.
He had attention from major Premier League clubs and, in June 2010, once he finished school, signed for Manchester City for an undisclosed fee. He played for City's U18 and U19 teams, as well as England U17. He represented England at the 2011 UEFA U17 Championships and the 2011 FIFA U17 World Cup. City coach Scott Sellars said he "was a real threat – he looks like a real talent".
In February 2013, he joined League Two Chesterfield on a loan deal. He made his Football League debut on 23.2.13 as a sub in a 1-0 defeat at home to Gillingham.
In October 2013, Alex joined Bristol Rovers of League Two on loan. He scored his first senior goal on 22.10.13 in a 2-1 defeat at Accrington Stanley.
Alex joined Championship club Ipswich Town in March 2014 on a youth loan until the end of the season. He was released by Manchester City when his contract expired. Despite having made no first-team appearances during his loan spell, Alex joined Ipswich on a two-year contract that summer. He made his debut for the club on 12.8.14 in a 1-0 League Cup defeat at Crawley Town.
Having made five appearances for Ipswich, Alex joined Championship rivals Blackpool in January 2015 on loan for a month. After two appearances, he returned to his parent club after suffering a knee injury. By September 2015, he had been made available for transfer, and at the end of the January 2016 transfer window, his contract was terminated by mutual consent.
In March 2016, Alex signed for Scottish Premiership club Kilmarnock until the end of the season. He played just twice and was released. Alex went into the 2016-17 season without a club but trained with Yeovil Town to maintain his fitness.
In December 2016, he joined Margate and made his only appearance on Boxing Day in a 3-0 home defeat to Welling United.
He signed for National League Braintree Town in early January 2017 and remained with them for the rest of the season.
Alex started 2017-18 with Nuneaton Town of National League North. He made six league starts in the first couple of months of the campaign but his season was disrupted by injury and he left the club before his contract ended.
After Alex returned to fitness ahead of the 2018-19 season, he joined National League North club Darlington. He made 24 league appearances without scoring and was released at the end of the season after which he signed for Nuneaton Borough of the Southern League Premier Division Central.
In November 2019, he joined Swindon Supermarine on a month's loan. His move became permanent and his contract with Nuneaton was terminated.
In the curtailed 2020-21 season he played for Southern League Premier Division sides Stratford Town and Banbury United. In the summer of 2021, he dropped down to Southern League Division One Central to play for Wantage Town. In December 2022, he signed for Melksham Town.
