Player Profile:
Midfielder Matt started his career at Conference club Rushden & Diamonds and joined Dover Athletic in summer 2011 but struggled to gain a regular spot in the team and had his contract cancelled by mutual consent in September 2011. He then moved to Braintree Town, then of the Conference Premier.
Matt was next at Bishop’s Stortford and won various player of the year awards before joining Ebbsfleet United in summer 2014. In August 2015, he rejoined Stortford on a month’s loan.
Matt came to Hartsdown in December 2015 on loan from Ebbsfleet. He made his debut in a 3-0 defeat at St Albans City on 5.12.15.
Matt made his move to Margate permanent in January 2016 when he signed an 18-month contract. Manager Nikki Bull said: “It is a very important signing for us, he is a big presence for us in midfield. A lot of his work goes somewhat unnoticed but he gets around the pitch and also scores goals.”
He finished the season having made 23 appearances, including two as a sub. He scored twice – in a 3-2 home win over Maidenhead United on 9.1.16 and in a 4-3 win at home to Hemel Hempstead on 23.4.16.
Matt started 2016-17 as a regular in the Margate midfield. He scored in a 2-2 draw at home to Hastings United in the FA Cup on 4.10.16 and in a 6-1 win at Greenwich Borough in the Kent Senior Cup on 8.11.16.
After 25 appearances in 2016-17, he left Margate in November 2016 as the club cut costs. He moved to Billericay Town, where he stayed until the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
Matt was at Chelmsford City for most of 2017-18 before making the switch to Enfield Town in March 2018. He stayed with the Towners during the 2018-19 season and was voted the manager’s and players’ player of the season.
Matt joined Hornchurch from Enfield Town in May 2019, staying with the Urchins until October 2020.
After a spell with Braintree Town in National League South, Matt rejoined Bishop’s Stortford ahead of 2022-23, helping them win the Isthmian Premier title.
He moved to Billericay Town for 2023-24.
