Player Profile:

Local player who turned out for Sunday side Margate Athletic before joining Thanet United for the 1987/88 season. Wayne became a regular in the reserves during the campaign.

He stayed with United for 1988/89 and made 11 appearances without scoring for the reserves during the season, sometimes playing alongside his brother Jason. Wayne also made a handful of first team appearances, making his senior debut on 12.11.88 when he came on as a substitute during Thanet's 6-2 defeat at Tonbridge. He played twice more as a sub in the weeks that followed and then made his first start in a 6-2 defeat at Witney on 28.1.89. Player-manager Garry Aldous said that Wayne's performance in midfield had been "quite pleasing". He then returned to the reserves for a lengthy spell before playing from the start as Thanet were thrashed 5-0 at Sheppey on 1.5.89. It was Wayne's last first team game and he left the club at the end of the season having made five appearances, three of them as a substitute. Wayne joined the Royal Navy towards the end of his time at Hartsdown and in 2005 he was living in Maidstone.
