Player Profile:
Versatile hard-working England Schoolboy international born in Ashcot, Somerset who began his career as a junior with at Arsenal before moving on to Tottenham for the 1961/62 season.
Alan spent four seasons in Spurs' junior sides but never made a senior appearance and in the summer of 1965 he was released.
He joined Cambridge City and made 61 appearances for them during the 1965/66 campaign. He was also a regular in the City side during the 1966/67 season.
Alan's next move took him to Dover and then in the summer of 1969 he signed for Margate.
After making his debut in a 3-3 draw at Hereford on 9.8.69 - the opening day of the season - he initially struggled to win a regular first team place due to the form of Dai Yorath and Ray Flannigan in the full-back positions but really established himself after Christmas 1969. Alan was the team's regular left-back once Flannigan departed for Reading but he also featured in midfield and at right-back on occasions. In total he made 41 appearances and scored once, with a header in a 4-0 win at Ashford on 23.2.70, before being released at the end of the 1969/70 season.
After a short spell out of the game Alan joined Ramsgate on a months trial but he was released in December 1970.
He later played for Harwich & Parkeston before having a spell with Clacton that included the 1973/74 to 1976/77 seasons.
Alan linked up with Tilbury for the start of the 1977/78 campaign before going back to Harwich early in 1978.
He later rejoined Clacton for a spell that included the 1979/80 season.
