Player Profile:

Midfielder who began his career at Gillingham, progressing through their junior sides to the reserves. During the first half of the 1973/74 campaign, Bernie scored four goals in 12 appearances for the Gills' second string but he left the club early in 1974 and joined Sittingbourne.

In July 1974, Bernie joined Margate on a month's trial and appeared in the club's pre-season friendlies. However, he refused the terms offered for a permanent deal and moved on to Maidstone instead. During the 1974/75 season, the Stones loaned Bernie to Dover and he scored three goals there.

In August 1976, Bernie returned to Margate from Maidstone, initially on loan, and made his debut in a 2-0 home defeat against Wealdstone on 28.8.76. His move soon became permanent and Bernie went on to make 29 appearances (four as sub) during the 1976/77 season, scoring three goals. He usually played in midfield but also featured as a striker and he was never a regular in the side.

He left the club in the summer of 1977 and later played for Dartford before linking up with Dartford Glentworth. Bernie's spell there included the 1978/79 season.
