5' 7" tall hard-working, fast centre-forward born in Edmonton, North London who packed a powerful shot with either foot.

Charlie started his career with West Ham and then joined Colchester before Arsenal paid £500 for him in 1945. He was released by the Gunners at the end of the 1946/47 season having never made a senior appearance and joined Margate in the summer of 1947.

Charlie made his debut in a 5-2 win over Gravesend & Northfleet in a Kent League game at Hartsdown Park on 23.8.47 and got one of the goals. He went on to be a fixture in the side throughout the campaign and on 11.10.47 Charlie scored a hat-trick in a 7-0 home win over Dartford in the Kent Senior Shield. He bagged two more hat-tricks - in a 10-0 win at Deal on 6.12.47 and a 6-0 win over Lloyds Paper Mills at Hartsdown Park on 27.12.47 - en route to a tally of 26 goals from 43 appearances as Margate won the Kent League title.

Charlie left Margate in the summer of 1948 and moved to Ashford, becoming the first signing made by the Nuts & Bolts' new player-manager Charlie Walker who had just been sacked by Margate.

Charlie died in Enfield during May 1987 aged 65 having lived in North London throughout his life.
