Player Profile:

Imposing, fiery Scottish defender who joined Margate in the summer of 1973 and played exclusively for the reserves during the 1973/74 season.

George continued to feature in the reserves during the 1974/75 campaign and on 3.4.75 he made his first-team debut in a 3-1 defeat against Ashford in a Kent Messenger Trophy tie at Hartsdown Park. It was George's only senior outing of the season.

During the 1975/76 campaign, he made three further first-team appearances and the first of them was in a 4-0 home win over Dover in the Kent Floodlight Cup on 24.2.76. George then played in a 1-0 defeat at Ramsgate in the same competition on 8.4.76 and the Thanet Times said he was "a tower of strength in defence". On 22.4.76, George wore the number five shirt as Margate won 2-0 at Canterbury in the 1st Leg of the Kent Floodlight Cup Final and the Isle of Thanet Gazette said he was "thoroughly competent". However, that game proved to be George's last first-team outing for the club and at the end of the campaign he left Margate when the reserve team was disbanded for financial reasons.

In the summer of 1976, George joined Ramsgate and he spent the 1976/77 and 1977/78 seasons at Southwood.

As an amateur player, George won the Thanet Works League 'Player of the Year' award twice in a row.
