Player Profile:

Bexleyheath-born England Youth international right winger who began his career with Bexleyheath & Welling during the 1953/54 season and stayed with the club until the start of 1958.

Bernard then had a short spell with Bristol Rovers but didn't make the first-team there.

In July 1958, Bernard joined Margate and made his debut in a 6-3 win over Bexleyheath & Welling at Hartsdown Park on 23.8.58. He only made seven further first-team appearances during the early part of the 1958/59 season and scored once in a 5-2 defeat at Betteshanger on 30.8.58. The local press said that Bernard "hared up and down the right wing like a greyhound" but also thought that his crossing let him down. Manager Almer Hall seemed to have similar thoughts and as a result Bernard spent most of his time at Margate in the reserves.

In January 1959, he was released and returned to the West Country, joining Chippenham Town.

By 1970, Bernard was living in Surrey.
