Derrek scored 58 goals for QPR's youth and reserve teams during 1960/61 but he never made a first-team appearance.

He joined Margate in the summer of 1961 and made his debut in a 1-0 defeat against Wisbech at Hartsdown Park on 19.8.61. Derrek only made four more appearances during the early part of the 1961/62 season and scored just once - in a 3-0 Southern League Cup win at Gravesend & Northfleet on 30.8.61. However, he did score four times in only two games for the reserves - all the goals coming in a 7-1 win over Ramsgate Reserves on 2.9.61.

In October 1961, Derrek was transferred to Kettering of the Southern League Premier Division and he later played five times for Dartford during the 1962/63 season, scoring three goals.

He spent the 1963/64 campaign with Hastings before signing for Crawley in the summer of 1964.

Derrek later played for Cray and his stint with the club included the 1965/66 season.
