Player Profile:

Forward born in Newcastle, Northern Ireland, who started his career with Belfast Celtic before being signed by Cardiff in September 1947.

Jimmy made four first-team appearances for the Bluebirds during 1947/48 and then moved to Tranmere in November 1948.

He made a total of 13 senior appearances for Rovers during 1948/49 and 1949/50.

In February 1951, Jimmy dropped into non-league football and joined Margate. He made his debut in 2-2 draw with Betteshanger at Hartsdown Park on 17.2.51. Jimmy went on to make a total of six appearances and scored once during the remainder of the 1950/51 season but never really established himself and left the club to join Chelmsford in the summer of 1951.

Although his first name was James, he was known as 'Seamus' during his league career but called Jimmy at Margate. In addition his surname was sometimes listed as being 'MacBennett'.

He died in 1995.
