Player Profile:

Versatile Thanet-born player who joined Margate as an amateur in the summer of 1951. Percy was in the army at the time having joined up aged 18 in August 1945.

During his service, Percy had captained the Brigade of Guards football team as a centre-forward and once led them to victory against the Sporting Club of Tripoli which was effectively the Lebanese national side at the time. He also captained the 1st Infantry Divisional team whose fixtures included a game against Saudi Arabian side Ittihad and Percy returned from the Middle East with many fond memories of the region and the Arab people.

Percy played a few games for Margate's reserve team in the early weeks of the 1951/52 season and also made one first-team appearance. He wore the number five shirt in a 3-1 defeat at Folkestone in an FA Cup tie on 29.9.51.

Soon afterwards Percy left the club due to his army commitments but in December 1952 he returned to Hartsdown Park while on leave and turned out for the reserves several times before the end of the 1952/53 campaign.

After leaving the army in 1953, Percy moved to the Birmingham area but returned to Thanet once again in the late 1950's.

He died in Thanet on 3.1.99 aged 71.
