Player Profile:
Creative player from Essex who started his career as a striker. Gordon played for Essex Senior League club Bowers United during the 1975-76 season and topped their scoring charts with 23 goals.
Later in the 1970s he played for Roblin Sports, a very successful Sunday League club in the Chelmsford area.
By 1981, Gordon had relocated to Kent and he was on Folkestone's books when he joined Thanet United in December 1981, initially on a month's trial.
He made his debut in a 0-0 draw at Canterbury on 15.12.81 and, according to the Thanet Times, Gordon "created a favourable impression" in midfield. Work commitments and a holiday in Nigeria limited his availability but he went on to make a total of 15 appearances (one as sub) before the end of the 1981-82 season as Thanet finished bottom of the Southern League Southern Division. Gordon scored once, a low shot from outside the penalty area in a 4-2 home defeat at the hands of Aylesbury on 13.2.82.
He began the 1982-83 campaign as a fixture in United's midfield and the Thanet Times described him as "wily". Gordon made 19 appearances without scoring before leaving the club in December 1982. His work as a customs officer left him little time for training and he departed by mutual agreement.
In 2007, Gordon was living in Whitfield near Dover.
