Blonde keeper who played in the Kent League for several clubs including Erith & Belvedere, Beckenham (during 1986/87) and Greenwich (also during 1986/87) before joining Alma Swanley for the 1987/88 season.

Derek stayed with Alma for the 1988/89 campaign and in November 1988 he joined Thanet United on loan to play in a Southern League Cup tie against Dover at Hartsdown Park on 8.11.88. He was an emergency replacement for the injured Joe Radford and the cup-tied Bob Grover. United lost the game 5-0 and Derek then returned to Alma.

He was still with Alma during the early part of 1991/92 but only made a couple of appearances.

Derek later played for Corinthian for a spell that included the 1994/95 season.

In March 2004, he played for an Erith veterans team in a charity match.
