Player Profile:

Burly winger known for his long throws who made his name with hometown club Maidstone United. Before making his first-team debut in 2009, he had played for the reserves and under-18s.

Alex played more than 275 times for the Stones over eight years and was part of the team which won the Isthmian Premier title in 2014-15 and promotion to the National League the following season.

He left at the end of 2016-17 to become Margate's marquee signing of summer 2017. He agreed a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee but had to wait more than a year to make his league debut.

Disaster struck when he sustained an ACL injury in the dying moments of the Thanet Cup game at Ramsgate on 4.8.17, which ultimately meant he missed the entire 2017-18 season.

He had an operation in November 2017 and, in February 2018, told Kent Online of his progress: "I'm currently straight-line running, which is the first progression from not really doing anything, so it's good to start exercising and trying to get back fit. I've got another six months left so I'm looking at July, start of August. It's a long process but we'll see it goes. It's been OK, not too bad.

"I had to wait three months for the operation, the surgeon wanted me to wait for medical reasons. I had that, the op went well, everything went as planned and the knee's been fine since the op. I've had no setbacks or issues but it's a long process so it's quite draining sometimes when you're going to watch football and you can't do anything."

There was a further setback when, on 27.7.18, he bruised his tibia in a 5-0 friendly win against Canterbury City at Hartsdown, which kept him out of action for the opening weeks of the season.

He finally returned to action when he came on as a sub in a 2-0 FA Cup defeat at Concord Rangers on 22.9.18. His first Margate goal came on 3.11.18 in a 2-3 home defeat against Burgess Hill Town. It turned out to be his only goal for Margate and he left the club at the end of the 2018-19 season having made just 28 appearances in two years.

Alex signed for Dartford in June 2019 but just a month later dislocated a shoulder in a friendly against Gillingham, forcing him to miss the start of the campaign.

In October 2019, Alex joined Isthmian League Hythe Town and was reunited with his former Margate manager Steve Watt.

He missed the early part of the 2021-22 season when he injured himself while working as a carpenter.

He told Kent Online: "I was sat down at work under a roof canopy doing something and, as I twisted to stand up, I felt the knee pop, and this was my good knee. I thought I might have just jarred it but I woke up the next day and it was worse."

In December 2021, he signed for Sittingbourne and stayed with the Brickies until the end of the campaign.

In August 2022, he announced his retirement from playing aged just 30. He had suffered a fresh knee injury during pre-season training with Hythe.

A testimonial was held for him at Maidstone United on 12.5.23.

At Hythe, he became assistant manager to Watt and had a brief stint as caretaker manager in 2023-24 after Watt's departure.
