Player Profile:

5' 7" tall defender born in Dulwich who was also a successful amateur boxer and represented London at that sport.

Alfie started his football career with Welling where he was part of their youth team that gained a notable 2-1 victory over Fulham. He then played for Danson in the London Spartan League before signing for Gravesend & Northfleet.

Alfie spent the 1983/84 and 1984/85 seasons with the Fleet and was principally a reserve team player there, making only three first team appearances.

Towards the end of 1984 he moved on to Dover and became a regular in their side for the remainder of the 1984/85 campaign. Alfie stayed with the club for 1985/86 too and at that time he was working as a draughtsman.

Alfie linked up with Ashford for the 1986/87 season and made nine Southern League appearances there before leaving the club during 1987/88. He later had a spell with Bromley and then gave up the game for a while to concentrate on his boxing.

In December 1990 Alfie ended his football exile by joining Margate. Manager Steve McRaye had previously worked with him at Gravesend, Dover, Ashford and Bromley. Alfie made his debut in a 2-1 win over Andover at Hartsdown Park on 8.12.90. He played at right-back in that game and then switched to the left flank as Margate drew 2-2 with his former club Dover at Hartsdown three days later. The Isle of Thanet Gazette praised his "timely interceptions" but Alfie only played twice more, once in each of the full-back positions, before leaving the club before the end of December.
