Player Profile:

Ali was born and brought up in Ghana but followed his mother, Mariam, a nurse, to Catford in 2000.

Ali was playing for Sunday league team Dulmore Albion based in Brockley Rise when he was spotted by Millwall scout Jamie Martin who signed him up for a scholarship aged 16. He played for Millwall in a 1-1 pre-season draw at Hartsdown on 8.7.06.

Ali tore a medial knee ligament in his first season as an under-18 and missed almost two months of football. He progressed through the reserve team and was called up to the first-team squad, going on to make 76 appearances for the Lions.

Ali was part of the Millwall squad which got to the League One play-off final during the 2008-09 season. The following season, he played a bit-part role in the squad that was promoted and was an unused sub in the 1-0 play-off final win against Swindon Town at Wembley on 29.5.10. After gaining promotion to the Championship, Ali’s contract wasn't renewed by the Lions. After leaving Millwall, he had trials with Leeds and Leyton Orient.

In January 2011, after a brief spell at Lewes, he signed for League Two club Lincoln City, agreeing a deal until the summer of 2012. But, in May 2011, he was made available for transfer by the club after a mass clearout of players following relegation from the Football League. However, he began 2011-12 at Lincoln until leaving Sincil Bank in November 2011 by mutual consent.

In December 2011, he joined Eastleigh but was released almost immediately after joining the club on a trial basis for failing to appear for a match against Thurrock on 10.12.11. Ali missed the game due to a 10-week prison sentence for motoring offences.

In January 2012, he signed for Bromley and was made captain shortly after joining the club. In March 2013, he left to join Sutton United but returned to Bromley in January 2014.

Ali was signed by Margate in summer 2016. Manager Nikki Bull told Kent Online: “He’s an exceptional player and has played 80-odd games for Bromley during the last couple of seasons. He’s got a good pedigree, he gets around the park, he can break play up and he will also be a calming influence.”

Ali made an explosive start to life at Hartsdown by being sent off in a 1-0 Thanet Cup defeat at home to Ramsgate on 9.7.16. He was a regular in the side in the opening weeks of the season but left Margate for Welling United in September 2016.

In August 2017, he moved on to join Isthmian League Greenwich Borough before linking up with VCD Athletic a year later.
