Player Profile:
Dan started his career at Hampton & Richmond Borough and made his first-team debut aged 16 in March 2011. He earned trials at Stoke City, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers.
In January 2012, Dan signed for Portsmouth on a one-year scholarship deal. Pompey then loaned Dan to Havant & Waterlooville until the end of the season.
Dan made his first-team debut for Portsmouth on 14.8.12 when he started a 3-0 defeat at Plymouth Argyle in the League Cup. Dan then spent time in the development squad at Pompey.
During 2012-13, he had loan spells at Dorchester Town and Bognor Regis Town. Dan was then released by Portsmouth and returned to Hampton & Richmond Borough for the start of the 2013-14 season.
In December 2013, he joined Conference South side Hayes and Yeading United but re-signed for Bognor in February 2014, moving on to Farnborough in August 2014.
In September 2014, he was back for a third spell at Bognor Regis, then Redhill in January 2015 before joining Hampton & Richmond once again over the summer of 2015.
The 2015-16 season proved nomadic for Dan - his clubs were Walton & Hersham in September 2015, Bedfont Sports in October 2015, Hampton & Richmond again in November 2015, Chipstead in December 2015 and he was back at Hampton & Richmond yet again in January 2016.
After being part of the Hampton & Richmond squad that won the 2015-16 Isthmian Premier title, he joined Burgess Hill Town in August 2016.
He moved to Tonbridge Angels in January 2017. In February 2018, he was released and signed for Braintree Town, where he helped the Iron win promotion to the National League.
Dan started 2018-19 playing for Braintree in the National League but his opportunities became limited and he moved to Dulwich Hamlet in December 2018.
In June 2019, Thompson joined Kingstonian. He moved to East Grinstead Town, where he made a handful of appearances before the 2019-20 season was cut short due to the pandemic.
In summer 2021, Dan moved to Margate. Manager Jay Saunders told Kent Online: "He's a great addition and fits the mould of the kind of striker I want in our team. Dan's a player I feel we can get the best out of and can enjoy a really successful career at Hartsdown Park." Dan scored in the 5-2 Thanet Cup win at Ramsgate on 31.7.21.
He came off the bench for the first three league games of 2021-22 but then had a run of starts in the team where he scored regularly. This included goals in a 2-1 win at home to Cray Wanderers on 30.8.21, in a 2-2 FA Cup draw at home to Thame United on 4.9.21 and in a 4-2 home win against Leatherhead on 11.9.21.
He then went back to being mainly a sub. However, he did score twice in one of his last appearances for the club when he netted a brace as a sub in a 4-2 win at Bowers & Pitsea on 3.1.22.
In January 2022, Dan left Margate by mutual consent and he signed for Whitehawk, leaving the Hawks at the end of the season.
He joined Worthing at the start of 2022-23 but signed dual registration terms with Chatham Town in October 2022 and spent most of that season playing for them.
In September 2023, Thompson joined Bowers & Pitsea. He moved to Phoenix Sports just two months later before signing for AFC Croydon Athletic.
In 2025, Dan played in the inaugural season of Baller League, a small-sided indoor football format fronted by YouTuber KSI. He returned to East Grinstead Town in November 2025.
