Lewis Ward

6' 5" goalkeeper and former England Under 16 international who joined Margate on loan from Reading at the beginning of the 2016-17 season and played in Margate's first league match of the campaign, a 1-0 victory over Bath City at Hartsdown on 6.8.16.

Lewis had to go off at half-time in a match at Ebbsfleet on 29.8.16 because he had concussion. With no goalie on the bench, defender Brett Johnson wore the gloves for the second half in a 4-0 defeat.

Lewis was Margate's regular keeper in the early months of the season but a quad injury in November meant he was replaced by Jon Henly and Valerie Pajetat until Lewis returned in February for a further six appearances but, in March, the club was unable to renew his loan deal.

In total, Lewis made 22 appearances for the 'Gate before Reading loaned him to Hungerford Town in 2017. Lewis has also had loan spells at Whitehawk, Aldershot, Fylkir (Iceland), Northampton Town and Forest Green Rovers.

In June 2019, he signed for Exeter City and made 33 appearances for the Grecians before a loan spell at Portsmouth in the 2020-21 season.

Lewis joined Swindon in the summer of 2021 where he played 17 times including both legs of the 2021-22 League Two play-off semi-final against Port Vale as well as their FA Cup Third Round home tie with Manchester City on 7.1.22 when he saved a penalty from Gabriel Jesus. Swindon lost the match 4-1.

After a spell at Sutton United in 2022-23, Lewis returned to Swindon in August 2023 in a player-coach role.

Lewis joined Charlton Athletic in January 2024 and signed for AFC Wimbledon in July 2024.
