Born in Hartlepool, Phil grew up in Portishead, Somerset, before moving to Turkey when his father Alan Walsh - a professional footballer who made over 400 appearances in the Football League - left Bristol City for BeÅŸiktaÅŸ in 1989. The family returned to Portishead in 1991.
Having started his career with Almondsbury Town, 6ft 3in Phil returned to the club in 2004 following spells with Clevedon Town and Taunton Town.
He moved to Bath City in 2005 where he established himself as a first-team regular over a three-year period, as well as spending loan spells at Paulton Rovers and Tiverton Town.
In 2008, he joined Newport County scoring one goal in nine appearances, before moving to Tiverton Town on loan, later making the move permanent.
Phil then went to Dorchester Town in March 2009. Later that year he joined Football League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge on trial before signing a permanent deal in January 2010. He made a total of nine league appearances during the remainder of the season.
In August 2010, Phil joined Barnet on loan, scoring 3 League goals in 8 appearances. The following January he joined Cheltenham Town on a month's loan. He also spent a loan spell at Hayes & Yeading United in January 2012. In May that year, Phil was released by the Daggers and signed for Ebbsfleet United.
Phil joined Margate in the summer of 2013. He scored in his first league game for the club on 10.08.13 at Hampton, a 69th minute goal in a 2-1 win. He scored twice against one of his old clubs, Clevedon, in an FA Trophy tie at Hartsdown on 02.11.13, a match we won 4-1. He also scored twice in a 5-3 defeat at Bognor on 07.12.13. Phil’s last goal for the club came in the first match for new manager Terry Brown, a 3-2 defeat at Hornchurch on 14.12.13.
With an influx of new players at Hartsdown, Phil rejoined Bath City in February 2014. In total, he scored 13 goals in 32 appearances (plus one as sub) for Margate.
In July 2016, Phil joined National League South side Chelmsford City from Leatherhead after a successful trial.
Phil had a brief spell at Bishop’s Stortford which saw him return to Hartsdown for a Conference South fixture on 07.01.17 - he scored a header for the visitors in a 3-0 win. He also spent time at Welling United in 2016/17 but signed for Hemel Hempstead Town in June 2017.
Phil is the brother-in-law of American actor Kelsey Grammer, who married his sister, Kayte Walsh, early in February 2011.
