Player Profile:

Burly Scottish striker born in Aberdeen who started his career with non-league Aberdeen Woodside before joining Arsenal in August 1961. Ron stayed at Highbury for almost four years but never made the Gunners first-team.

In July 1965, he was transferred to Notts County and made 49 first-team appearances during two seasons in Nottingham.

Ron then moved on to Brentford for the 1967/68 season but made only one appearance early in the campaign before joining Margate on a month's trial in September 1967.

Despite his impressive 'pedigree', Ron's stay at Margate wasn't a great success. He made his debut on 9.9.67 in a 3-0 win over Stevenage at Hartsdown but struggled to impress. His performance in the 1-0 win over Hastings in the FA Cup on 16.9.67 led to the local paper describing him as "quick tempered and slow footed" and he scored only once in six appearances before being released when his trial period expired.
