Player Profile:

Margate-born attacking midfielder who progressed through the club's youth ranks and played for Margate's Under-16's during 1995/96 before moving up to the reserves during the 1996/97 season.

Russell featured in some first-team friendlies in the summer of 1997 and played for the Under-18's and reserves throughout 1997/98. On 23.4.98, he made his first-team debut aged 18 as a substitute in a 3-0 defeat at Yate. On 29.4.98, he made another sub appearance in a 3-1 defeat at Bashley before wearing the number seven shirt as Margate lost 2-1 at Cirencester on 2.5.98. In addition to his three senior appearances, Russell scored over 20 goals for the Under-18's and reserves and won the reserve team's 'Players' Player of the Year' award.

He stayed at Margate for the 1998/99 season and featured in some first-team friendlies before playing regularly for the reserves once again. Russell also made one more senior appearance - coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat at Folkestone on 1.12.98.

He joined Whitstable for the 1999/00 campaign but returned to Hartsdown Park for 2000/01, playing for Margate's reserves all season. He later had a spell with Ramsgate that included the 2002/03 season.

Russell was still playing locally during the 2010/11 campaign, turning out for Active Signs that season.

He worked as an accountant.
