Player Profile:

Winger Sean started his career as a youth with Tottenham Hotspur, spending eight years with the club until 2008. He then joined Isthmian League Potters Bar Town, where he was spotted by Conference club Rushden & Diamonds as a 16-year-old. He played for the Diamonds’ first-team in 2009-10 but, in March 2010, rejoined Potters Bar for a very brief spell until the end of the season.

In October 2010, he signed for Conference South side St Albans City. He scored a first-half hat-trick in a 6-2 FA Cup win at Ashford Town (Middlesex) on 22.9.12.

Sean made almost 100 appearances for St Albans before, in January 2013, he joined League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge on a contract until June 2016. He made his debut on 26.1.13 as a sub in a 2–1 defeat at Morecambe.

Sean qualified to play for Northern Ireland through his father. On 30.5.13, he played in a UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier against Cyprus in Nicosia, which Northern Ireland lost 3-0. His second appearance came on 9.9.13 in a 1-0 defeat away to Belgium.

In August 2014, he re-joined Conference South side St Albans City on a two-month loan. In October 2014, his loan was extended for a further month after a St Albans fan funded the deal.

In December 2014, he was loaned to another Conference South side Ebbsfleet United. In January 2015, his contract at Dagenham was cancelled by mutual consent. He immediately returned to Ebbsfleet on a permanent deal, signing an 18-month contract.

After suffering an ankle injury during pre-season in July 2015, Shields missed the first two months of the 2015-16 campaign. In October 2015, Sean went to Chelmsford City on loan.

In December 2015, Sean signed a one-month loan at Margate. He scored one goal, which was in the last of his six appearances, a free-kick in a 3-2 win at home to Maidenhead United on 9.1.16.

Sean had impressed in his time at Hartsdown and an 18-month deal was agreed for his permanent transfer. But Margate shortened the contract to six months at the last minute and the deal was off.

Sean joined Hemel Hempstead on loan before returning to his parent club Ebbsfleet in time to play a part in the back end of the Fleet's campaign. He signed a new deal with Ebbsfleet in summer 2016. He was part of the Fleet squad that finished second in National League South in 2016-17 and won promotion through the play-offs. He stayed at Stonebridge Road but was loaned out to Maidstone United and Boreham Wood from December 2018 until the end of the 2018-19 season.

He agreed a season-long loan deal with Notts County of the National League for 2019-20. Having been released by Ebbsfleet, Sean signed for Weymouth in October 2020.

In summer 2022, Sean joined Barnet on a permanent deal following Weymouth's relegation from the National League.

In February 2023, he joined another National League side, Scunthorpe United, until the end of the season.

In the 2024/25 season, Sean was playing for Tonbridge Angels
