Margate 0
West Ham United 1 (Jones, 83)
Monday 22 July 1996
Friendly – Hartsdown Park, Margate
Attendance: 3,500
A match held as part of Margate’s centenary celebrations that drew the biggest crowd to Hartsdown since the FA Cup tie against Spurs in 1973. West Ham’s squad included first-teamers such as Tony Cottee, Julian Dicks, Tim Breacker, Michael Hughes, Robbie Slater and Kenny Brown. The Hammers won the game with a late goal from Steve Jones. However, the highlight of the evening was Margate keeper Kevin Hudson saving a penalty from Dicks. The match was kicked off by pop star sponsor Buster Bloodvessel.
